Gondia (Maha), Feb 9 (PTI) Union Minister for Heavy Industries Praful Patel today asked Maharashtra Government to frame specific rules to attract industries in Vidarbha in order to boost development of the backward region. Whatever the state authorities are offering in terms of power tariff to industries in Vidarbha are not sufficient. Industries need more flexible policy to invest here, he said. Assuring his full support to `Advantage Vidarbha', a conference to be held here on February 25-26 to promote the region as an investment destination, Patel said he had already written to top industrial houses to participate in the event. Speaking about specific rules, Patel told reporters here that power tariff offered to industries here is on higher side as compared to Gujarat and other neighbouring states. What we require is land, water and power, the major ingredients to run industries. There is a need for making flexible policy within the industrial policy announced by Maharashtra Government last year, said the NCP leader who is Lok Sabha MP from Bhandara-Gondia constituency in Vidarbha. Patel said Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) is planning to set up two new units near Nagpur but the Central PSU needs power at comparatively lower rates to run them. If Maharashtra Government was unable to provide the concession, BHEL may opt to buy power from some other source, either in private or public sector, the Minister said. Patel suggested turning the huge tract of vacant land in MIDC Butibori near Nagpur into an automobile hub. About the proposed BHEL units near here, Patel said consent from about 80 per cent affected persons have been received towards land acquisition and the PSU was willing to pay adequate compensation. Patel was here to attend annual felicitation of meritorious students of colleges run by Gondia Education Society, set up by his father Manohar Patel. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and media baron Shobhana Bhartia, among others, were present on the occasion. PTI JOE RSY
