July was a mixed bag for the automobile industry with companies such as Maruti Suzuki and Honda posting an increase in domestic car sales, while car makers, including Tata Motors and M&M, continued to struggle on the growth front. July also saw huge discount schemes being floated by the incumbents; however they failed to ignite the consumer fancy. We believe the concerns over fuel costs and expensive borrowing will continue to weigh on consumer interest for the remainder of this financial year, and likely outweigh the discounting schemes. Two wheelers sales too continue to remain strained with only two of the top four manufacturers in India reporting a growth in numbers.
Hero MotoCorp
Witnessing a marginal growth!!!
The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp witnessed marginal rise in total sales at 4,87,545 units for July'13 as against 4,84,217 units in July'12. Growth in July has come in the wake of good demand for its motorcycle brands such as Glamour and Ignitor and scooter models Pleasure and Maestro. The company is hopeful of sustaining this positive momentum in the coming months as they gear up for the festive season which would see a slew of launches.

De-growth!
Dragged down by the sluggish demand in auto industry, Bajaj Auto reported 20 percent decline in motorcycle sales at 2,46,828 units in July'13 as against 3,08,858 units in July'12. On the export front it were down by 12 percent during the month at 1,10,023 units compared to 1,25,501 units in July, 2012. In the commercial vehicles category, the company sales stood at 34,499 units as against 35,292 units in the same month last year, a decline of 2 percent. Total vehicle sales of Bajaj Auto Ltd last month stood at 2,81,327 units compared to 3,44,150 units in the same period a year ago, down 18 percent.
TVS Motor
Sales continue to decline
In the month of July, TVS Motors registered a dip of 4.7 percent in total sales at 1,53,676 units against 1,61,255 units in July 2012. The company registered total two wheeler sales of 1,46,671 units in July 2013 against 1,57,954 units recorded in July 2012. Over the same period, domestic sales stood at 1,26,531 units in the month of July 2013 against 1,40,862 units in July 2012, a decrease of 10.17 percent. Motorcycles sales grew by 8 percent increasing from 53,355 units in July 2012 to 57,886 units in July 2013. However, sales Scooters dropped 9.7 percent at 36,900 units in July 2013 against 40,895 units in the same month of the previous year. On the export front, the company's witnessed a growth of 36.6 percent with sales of 26,145 units in July 2013, from 19,142 units in the month of July 2012. Two wheeler exports registered a growth of 17.8 percent, with sales at 20,140 units in July 2013, from 17,092 units in the corresponding month of last year. Three wheeler sales increased 112.2 percent to 7,005 units during the month, as against 3,301 units in July 2012.
