Cong didn't back me as much as it should: Sheila Dikshit

A day after the Congress government of Sheila Dikshit was decimated in Delhi Assembly elections by the BJP and AAP, the outgoing Chief Minister on Monday blamed the party for massive lass. "I didn't get the support from the party which I should have. The party and the government went separate ways and that was a problem. There should have been more cohesion," Sheila, who herself lost to AAP's Arvind Kejriwal with a huge margin in New Delhi constituency, said.

When asked if there was a gap between the party and government, Sheila said, "Yes, I agree completely. There should be more cohesion and more support for each other."

Shiela accepted that her party underestimated the Kejriwal factor in Delhi, which pushed the Congress to the third slot.

"Yes. We knew of the Kejriwal factor but considering the corruption that came out in that party also we thought the people would understand. Sympathisers of any party have to also move forward, I think that's where we failed to some extent. it is one of the causes, not the only one. We need to retrospect," she said.

"I did feel that, I was doing work on my own but I was not obligated. It's my party. I just don't think I got the kind of support you normally get but I don't hold it against them. I understand these things happen. It is my duty as much as anyone else's and I couldn't refuse to move till they did. So I moved," she added

However, accepting the people's decision she added that Delhi should get a stable government now. "This is democracy, it's the people's mandate. Now we only wish Delhi gets a stable government. We have no role in government formation in Delhi," she said.

Her reaction comes hours after Congress put the blame on her for the poor show in Delhi where the AAP delivered a massive blow to the party bagging the space of the main opposition as the BJP took a slender lead and emerge as the single largest party with 32 seats in 70-member Assembly. AAP bagged 28 with Congress reduced to single digits as only 8 constituencies put their faith in its candidates. One seat went to the JDU while an independent candidate won one.
