It all began on Saturday after Priyanka Gandhi in Sultanpur said that the BJP leader has chosen a wrong path and needed to be led in the right direction.
None of the two estranged Gandhi cousins - Varun Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi - is bowing down this election season in the battle of words. Priyanka Gandhi has now hit back at Varun's response to her earlier attack on him. She has told Varun, "It's not a family tea party, it's a war of ideologies."
"I strongly disagree with his views. It is a betrayal of my family. My father died for the unity of this country. I cannot disrespect that," Priyanka has said.
This comes just minutes after Varun Gandhi hit out at Priyanka for calling him a "Gandhi who had lost his way". "I have never crossed the lakshman rekha of decency whether it is my family or any senior member of any political party in my speeches. It is my request to all that instead of personal attacks, we debate unemployment, corruption, poverty and illiteracy," he said.
"My inherent decency and large-heartedness should not be construed as weakness by anyone," Varun retorted today. "If India has to move towards the politics of hope, we will have to raise the level of debate," he said.

Varun filed his nomination papers from Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
