The Modi government's push for reforms seems to have hit a massive roadblock with a united opposition cornering the centre in the Rajya Sabha - yesterday, the mines and minerals bill was sent to a select committee against the wishes of the government, and looks like the land acquisition bill could be headed the same way.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18's Rituparna Bhuyan, D Raja, MP,Communist Party of India(CPI), the man who moved the motion to send the mines bill to Rajya Sabha said both the MMDR and Coal bills will be referred to the select committees.
The composition of select committees is being worked out and once that is done, it will be announced to the house, he added.
According to him, the report by the select committees is likely to come in a week's time. In case it is given before March 30, then there may not be a need for repromulgation of ordinances.
The select committees will scrutinise the bills and give their suggestions and after incorporating the committees' reports, the bills will be represented in the house, he said.
